Lovely Christmas Night at Aunt Terry's

My family and I had such a lovely Christmas this year. There is so much for me to be grateful for.  As I promised in my Merry Mantels post, I said that I would post pictures of Aunt Terry's beautifully decorated mantels.  My Aunt Terry has such exquisite taste, so I went around her house on Christmas night {in between breaks at the buffet table} and took tons of photos.  Have a look and tell me what you think!

Her home is so Christmasy and we love all the details that she puts into making her home festive and fun.  Love you Aunt Terry! Thanks for letting me share your gorgeous home with my blog friends!

Jessica Seinfeld's Recipe for Cool-Mom Chic

How does Jessica Seinfeld look cool-mom chic on a daily basis?  Well, Redbook asked and I'm here to share it with you! I love hearing from other mothers what their style secrets are! Don't you?

As quoted in Redbook:

Make online shopping work for you. "I shop for clothes when I have time —early in the morning or late at night. (I like Net-a-porter.com) To avoid buying stuff I won't wear, I leave things in my basket for a few days. If I keep thinking about them, I buy them."

Stock up on essentials. "Madewell tanks are just that: made and priced so well. I own lots of colorful ones and wear them constantly."

Go for stuff that's practical and cute. "My Nike Free sneakers add a splash of color and slide on fast, perfect for when I'm rushing to catch the school bus. And my favorite cargos are skinny but stretchy, so I can go up or down a few pounds and they still fit!"

Design Inspiration from Williams Sonoma Home

In the coming new year I would love to make a few updates here in there around my home and I went to Williams Sonoma Home for inspiration.  They have a Designer Series section that was put together to help us get fresh new ideas for design from some of the top stylish people in the industry.

Looking forward to getting similar lighting for my kitchen.

Holiday Cookies

Okay, am I only one who has eaten about five hundred cookies in the last few days? Thank the Lord I'm training for a marathon!  Even though, I have been packing on the calories lately, I am excited about my holiday baking tomorrow.  I love Martha Stewart's recipes and will use them for my cookie inspiration to help me along the way.  Here's also a few coastal holiday cookies that caught my eye!

Merry Christmas!

New Year's Eve 2011: Sparkly Dinner Party

New Year's Eve has always been a special evening for me.  We celebrate it every year with good food, family and friends.  A few months ago, I came across this fantastic blog called, Hostess with the Mostess.  I love their design tips for all types of celebrations.  This post of HWTM in particular was the perfect New Year's Eve photo shoot with lots of fun inspiration for a stylish and festive dinner party.  It was styled by Courtney from Pizzazzerie and she shares all the following details below.

Christmas Package

I had the best time today wrapping up gifts for my Dad, lovely step-mother, and sister!  I just wanted to share what I did inside the package.

Cozy Shoes

Gweneth Paltrow's Newsletter GOOP focused on cozy shoes this week and I loved so many of the styles, especially the adorable Celtic Sheepskin Company boot in the picture below!

I was happy to find three pairs of cozy winter boots today when I was out shopping.  The left and middle boots are from Target and were on clearance for $9.48 and the one on the right was on sale for $15 at Old Navy! Wow! I really got a bargain!  Do you have any favorite cozy shoes that you would like to share with us?

My friend Courtney over at A Thoughtful Place also found a great pair boots today! Stop by her post to check them out!

More Merry Mantels

I found a few more beautifully decorated mantels for Christmas at Country Living.  There's nothing better than visiting a home that has a great mantel.  Every Christmas, my Aunt Terry, does an amazing job decorating her mantels....yes, I said mantels with an "s".  She has a doubled sided fireplace and each side looks like it belongs in a magazine.  I will make sure to take lots of pictures when we go to her house for a dinner party on Christmas day.  Check back Christmas night for those pictures!  In the meantime, enjoy these elegant mantels.

Hope you are having a wonderful Christmas season so far.....the best is yet to come! Only 10 more days!

Our Christmas Tree

Welcome! I finally got around to decorating my tree and decided that I needed a Christmas tree make-over.  So I hopped in my car and headed over to Crate and Barrel for ornaments and Pottery Barn for a new treeskirt.  Yes, I spent a good penny and I still need more ornaments to fill up the tree, but I'm happy with the update.  Decorators usually like to change things frequently and I'm one of them.  It drives my hubby crazy, but after so many years of marriage bliss, he knows what to expect.  Thanks hunny!  With that said, I took a few pictures here and there of my home to share with you.  Hope you enjoy your visit!

Wintery Wreaths

Here's a few festive wintery wreaths that I found over at Country Living.  There's one for everyone's liking. Cheers!

Merry Mantels

I'm looking forward to building a fireplace in my home one day soon and these beautiful mantels decorated for Christmas are such an inspiration to me.  I think the first mantel from Southern Accents is the merriest.  Which one is your favorite?

Gweneth Paltrow: Mexican Dinner, Family Style

In my house we have a Mexican family style dinner all the time and the kids enjoy it very much. They get to make their own taco or tortilla wraps and everyone's happy! We've even had friends and family over for my husband's fajita dinner and it always seems to be a hit!

I found this great video over at Gweneth Paltrow's online newsletter GOOP. She cooks up a yummy Mexican dinner using shrimp. It's fun to watch other people, especially celebrities, make a great family dinner. Way to go Gweneth! You seem to be a great cook!

Tory Burch: Beauty Tips

A Natural Glow

Why we love it: A sun-kissed complexion looks right any time of year.

Beauty tip: Powder bronzers are more natural looking and easy to apply. Choose a matte or slight shimmering powder. Using a large flat bronzer brush, dust color onto the apples of your cheeks, nose, chin and neck.

High Gloss Hair

Why we love it: High-gloss hair is the ultimate accessory, and it looks good on everyone.

Beauty tip: Get weightless, healthy shine by using a quality hairbrush with natural bristles. (Our favorite brush is the beauty industry standard: Mason Pearson.) If you still want more shine, work a pea-sized dab of shine serum into the mid-lengths and ends of hair.

Outdoor Christmas Trees

Coastal Living Magazine has lovely ideas for decorating an outdoor tree.  I think it's wonderful change, especially if you are hosting a Christmas gathering.  What better way to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful Christmas tree lights while enjoying the company of your friends and family.  Have any of you ever had a tree outside?

Beach-Inspired Christmas

If you love the beach like I do, you may want to display your beach finds this holiday season.  I use most of my shells and found objects in my decor all year round, especially Christmas.  Here are a few inspirational photos that I found at Better Home and Gardens to help you get started.

If you have starfish already, all you need is ribbon to create this look with candles.

As much as I love living near the coast....I love being nestled in the mountains.  Some of our favorite summer destinations have included staying in beautiful cabins and enjoying the fresh air high up in the mountains.  I found this photo at Architectural Digest.  The home is located in Telluride, Colorado and it looks picture perfect!

Tory Burch Resort 2011

I've posted a preview of Tory Burch's new Resort Line for 2011 recently, but here's more I came across today.  Don't you just love the colors? Wish I had a ski trip planned! Anyway....there are other items in her line that that I can wear this winter even if I'm not going on a ski trip...love the puffer coat and the black ski pants.  What's your favorite?

Red and Green Christmas

House Beautiful has, well ....beautiful ideas online to use red and green for your Christmas decorations.  I love the festive twist they used in making different areas of the Greenwich home they decorated bright and very Christmasy.  Are you using red and green this Christmas?  I am!

Would you decorate with feathers? I'm not sure I would, but I do think this mantel looks interesting.
