GETTING FIT & HEALTHY

After, being on a road trip for seventeen days and eating my way through the east coast of the United States I decided that I needed to get back to eating better and working out at least six times a week. Then I came across the picture above of me hiking up a dune in the Outer Banks about three years ago and was inspired. Although, it was a beautiful, scorching day making my way up those enormous dunes, I remembered why it was a special for me. I had been recovering from a broken hip and being able to climb up there with no pain was thrilling! The fact that my rehab was working and the possibility of me completing a marathon in the near future seemed within reach. I continued exercising to get my legs and core stronger over the next few months, so that I could train for the marathon that would take place seven months later. Good news, I did complete the marathon and what an accomplishment that was for me. It was something I had always wanted to do and never thought that dream would come true when I broke my hip. I realized it's important to look back at some of the things in our life that could have stopped us in our tracks and remember how we persevered. I love the saying, a smooth sea never made a skillful sailor. Don't give up.

Speaking of exercise, I tend to buy workout outfits all the time and they could be pricey, so I was excited to see the great values that Nordstrom has on name brand athletic looks during their Anniversary Sale. I browsed through the entire Nordstrom Anniversary Sale to find active styles that I think you will love. I know I love them. One of which, I already bought, like these fab sneakers by Nike. You can see here and here how much I love Nike's. Oh, and these Nike's aren't on sale, but they're so comfortable. I wore them on my hikes in Acadia. Enjoy!

  1. Thank you for sharing such an awesome personal story with us! Staying fit and healthy is top of mind for me as well. I find that a good balance of enjoying life and indulging once in a while, married with discipline and healthy eating the rest of the time, works well for my lifestyle. I'm making a commitment to just getting out and moving a lot more. My hubby and kids enjoy being active so I try to take as much advantage of that as I can!

    1. That's a great way to think and it's wonderful to keep the kids active as well. You're setting a great example for them. :)
